Whale Tail Repair ?

I have an '83 911sc with factory whale tail, the rubber on the right side is just beginning to seperate from the fiberglass, not bad yet but sure to get worse. Any idea's on what adhesive or silicone to use and any techniques to do so. My fear is seperating it any further to get the adhesive in there may make it worse. The paint is perfect and the back and left side of the rubber and fiberglass mating area is perfect as well.

The rubber part is bolted to the fiberglass part. Look inside and see if the nuts on the right side are coming loose, or if the stud that is bonded into the rubber is pulling out.

Probably stud pulling out, it happened to mine as well.
While you're checking, look for any cracks in the polyester, it's not uncommon and they will get worse if not looked after.

If the studs are pulling out or rusting away, you'll likely find this thread an interesting read Look what I did!!! The ultimate Whale Tail Rubber stud replacement.

Thanks for the insight, i had no idea it was actually bolted on, there are no visual signs of rusting such as might be seen above or below, no runs or rust marks at all, i can hope that it just needs to tightened but the way things go it is probably at least pulling out of the rubber, if not rusting bolts, or maybe "just loose", i guess i have to drop the a/c condensor (non-op) to get up in there, i have never looked up inside that area ever, seems like no mans land.

I know this will be expensive but is there a source to buy just the new rubber, for lack of a better word, part of the whale tail it seems the studs may be pulling through.

If the studs are pulling through, that's probably because they're no longer attached to anything except rust inside the rubber.

I think the factory rubber lip has been NLA for some considerable time. Don't bin yours, even if you don't want to fix it yourself...
