I had fun today
Spent the day soda blasting the car 550 lbs of soda used paint hung on but I came out victorious! could not believe it paint on the hood was at least an eighth of an inch thick, wow I think I lost some weight on the car.

Did you do this in a shop or outside? How much of a mess? Why did you pick soda blasting? Anything else viable (plastic, walnut shells, etc.)?
Sorry for all the questions, but I have a coupla' cars to blast myself. |

Did it outside and it is a huge mess I had soda on the ground around the car up to 3 inches thick a friend said he could see and smell it a block away.

I'm curious as to how much you paid for the soda. My buddy has a commercial soda blast rig at work used for mold removal (construction industry) and I was planning to "borrow" it (
 ) for one of my projects until I found out how much the media cost...about $30 per 40lb bag.I have another friend who has bare tubs completely plastic media blasted here in FL at a shop in Orlando for as little as $600, so that seemed to be the better alternative to the "do-it-yourself" for about the same cost plus a day or more of labor and lots of cleanup time. The guy that owned the rig blasted for 2 hours and then turned it over to me and I blasted for another 5 and he charged me 375 for the whole deal, I got a bargain. Oh yeah and 3 hours so far cleanup more to come that stuff goes everywhere.

soda blasting
and it will be coming for years. It;s every where in all the nooks and grannies. You will still find that stuff years later in your car.
Next time I will try CO2 blasting. We have 2 Places which can do CO2 blasting and no mess to clean up. It also removes the soft under coating. |
