Question Carrera oil cooler to a 1973.5

I felt i needed some more speed in my 1973.5 2.4 T, so I bought an SC 3.0 /204 hp engine. This was much cheaper than modifying my 2.4 T engine to an E or S.
I will now need to install an external oil cooler in the right front wing. The only ones available seems to be the Carrera types, does anyone have experience of fitting one to a 73 or older ? will my right battery box be a problem ?
My second question is about the air injection on the 3.0 SC( small blower on left back corner of the engine compartment).
What is it good for and what happens if I just take it away ? Is just for emission ?

My plan is to install the new engine next winter.

Hopefully I will not have any big ( expensive ) surprises.

Running oil lines up front should not be a problem. You will need a thermostat, hard oil lines, a cooler, hoses and some other items. Check out elephantracing.com for needed parts. The Battery box will be problem. The air pump is for emissions.

I should add, if your 3.0 is not a U.S. engine, you may not have an air pump. The blower you mention is most likely the heater blower motor. You can remove it if you back-date your heating system to the pre 1975 style. Do a search on "heater, Back date". You will clean up the engine compartment by getting rid of the blower motor.

While we are on the subject of oil coolers etc, I recently bought front oil cooler set up from a '77 911 for my 73S which doesn't have one. Is there any advantage of using the oil reservoir out of the '77 over the '73 one?

The '77 oil tank has a slightly larger capacity than the '73. The change happened in '74.

it´s a Row engine and it has both the heater blower and the air pump. Thanks for the advise,I will check if i find something on the backdate issue as my aim is to keep the look as close to 1973 as possible.
Will i have some problems with the engine if i take the air pump away ?

You should have no problem removing the air pump as there is a check valve in the system that prevents exhaust gas from escaping--it's attatched to the rubber hose from the air pump that leads down through the engine tin. You can also remove the check valve and hard line plumbing that goes into the exhaust ports and plug the holes with machined plugs (I think our host carries them.) This, however, requires removing the heat exchangers and part of the exhaust system and would be easier done before the engine is installed.

external oilcooler

Thanks for the advise guys, I ended up buying the oil lines from elephant, installing was just a few hours job.
The battery box was not a problem as i am using the early style " trombone"
front cooler. It should be sufficient for our summers here in Finland ( at least this summer).
I attached a few pics of what i´v done to the car so far.
This is a great hobby, i´m learning every day. If I still could get my wife to appreciate the time i spend in my garage, everything would be perfect.
Now i´m just waiting for the rain to stop, so that I can take it for a ride
