CIS Airflow switch adjustment?
When I have the key on my 81 SC in the #2 position (just before starting) the fuel pump runs. This always seemed odd and wrong and after searching the archive I found that this is not correct.
The pump has a safety circuit that uses a switch on the airflow meter that only allows the pump to run when the engine is running or starting. Is there an adjustment procedure to set it up? anyone know how to do this? I notice that there's a screw/locknut in the assemlbly that has the switch contact but don't know what to do, any ideas? I found the info on this in this thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=375687&highlight=fuel+pump+runnin g Mike |
CIS Airswitch.......
Mike,
Before you make any adjustment I suggest you first check terminal #85 for the fuel pump relay socket. This is a ground terminal and should be closed when the motor is not running. But there are several reasons why it could stay open, like a defective air switch, air sensor plate not properly set, loose connection, broken ground wire, etc. In your attached 'thread', Npresley the last poster in that thread had similar problem like yours. He was able to locate the culprit and corrected the anomaly. Contact NPresley or PM me. The test procedure is very simple. Tony |
I had the same situation.
Replacing the red relay fixed the problem on my SC. Swap the red with a black and check to see if the pump runs before cranking the starter. |
