Battery Voltage Spike
I have been tuning the MegaSquirt Fuel Injection in my 911SC over the past few weeks. In the data log I have noticed an anomaly in the battery voltage data. The data indicates that the battery voltage will momentarily and at random, spike to approximately 17 volts. The spike is only a few milliseconds in duration. This data was gathered during the day without any lights, radio or other ancillary systems drawing power. The FI power is coming from a hot lead on the auxiliary fuse panel in the engine compartment. The momentary spike causes an excursion of the injector pulse width and a "miss" in the engine.
Could this voltage spike be an indication of a voltage regulator going south or should I be looking in other areas? Thanks, Jim S.
