'83 3.0 swap into a '73T, help/opinions needed

Greetings from a Pelican newbie,
I'm new to the Tech forum and I'm sure this has probably been discussed more often than not, but any help provided is greatly appreciated.
I recently acquired a '73 with broken timing chain tensioners & all of the bent valves that come it them. My plan is to restore it, but for now, I have too many other projects I must finish first. So for now I'd like to get it running & drive/enjoy it while finishing these other projects.
My question is... I just recently bought an '83 3.0 engine. It came with the control units for the CIS & ignition. I'm in a quandary as to best adapt it to my car. I figure my options are, put a set of carbs on it, go with a new EFI system, or swap out the wiring harness with an '83 SC wiring harness so I can use the CIS that is on it now. The last option would be if someone has gone through the trouble to make their own harness so that the latter CIS/control unit can be used in the earlier chassis.
Any help, opinions about making this work are greatly appreciated.Thank you for your time, Kurt

I've never heard of any state where the emissions regulations apply to 40 year old cars... maybe CA...? I don't know. Granted, I hate MD, and the MVA (DMV) here, but if a car's 20 years old you're golden.

As said above, strap a set of carbs on and go. No issues going into a 73. I did the same into a 71. Its great how the mounts, length and flywheels stayed the same throughout the years.

Hey Kurt,
like the others have asked - where are you? Are emissions an issue? Is the T mfi?

I'd tend to say use the CIS. The CIS ECU is basically a piggy back system and wiring for it is quite simple. I would def NOT go through the trouble of swapping out complete wiring harnesses unless an SC harness makes its way to your garage at next to no cost. Same goes for the CD ignition. You do have the ECU connector?

All in all, I'd think this is the fastest, cheapest way for you to get on the road and have fun. Carbs are expensive and not as efficient as your CIS and swapping to Efi is even more expensive and overkill for your situation (IMO).

Many thanx to one & all. I live in Northern Cal, where a '73 is exmept from smog laws. I will keep all of your advice in mind as I try to figure out what to do. Thanx again, Kurt

I recently put an '80 3.0 into a '73. I kept the CIS. I had to swap a few wires in the 14 pin connector in the engine bay and run a few extra wires, but overall was a pretty easy swap.

Get the wiring diagrams for both cars and compare.
