ENGINE FAN SPECS and A/C CONDENSER...
 

Does anyone know where to find or what the CFM's are for the engine fan for an "84"? I appreciate engine speed would have effect on the CFM's. I'm considering adding fans to the A/C condenser, but want to be sure the extra air flow will be carried away by the engine fan.

Also along these same lines it seems like the stock condenser is very dense making the flow of air restricted. I bet if the condenser wasn't there the engine would run a lot cooler.

Lastly why is the whales tail grill paint on the left half of my grill worn through to the bare aluminum in places exactly half way across, the right side paint is perfect?

You mean like these? Mine certainly do not increase engine temp when A/C is on. BTW they suck not blow.

Thanks for the reply, I remember reading your earlier posting saying that you felt that your fan configuration were better pullers than pushers. Someone has opened up your lid which gives a lot more airflow across the engine.

You'll see from my picture that the only opening I have on my engine lid is the area directly above the condenser. Do you have any problems of rain water getting into your engine room?

Have to be honest and answer that I really don't know! I have had the car a couple of years now and the only rain it has suffered has been reasonably light and at speed. It has never sat in torrential rain while I have owned it. There is certainly no evidence of rain damage anywhere in the engine bay if that helps any.

Don't know what the '84 fan pulls, but the '78-81 SCs pull 1380-1500 liters per second at 6000 rpm depending on the pulley ratio. 1500 lps is 3180 cfm. Maybe that means about 500+ cfm per 1000 rpm?

The fans should be below the condenser so that incoming air does not bypass around the condenser and also for appearance.

Thus the fans should be puller type fans as well, not pushers.
When the car is underway they are not going to be needed as there is so much airflow over the car and thru the tail.

The fans should not be activated by the compressor clutch but by system pressure.
At stop and go traffic, the fans should be activated by a trinary switch when pressure rises over 220-240psi or so.

Two 900cfm fans will do the trick. Go thin.

Tsuter, is you lid opened up like Dave's - NYNE11, see above attached pix. Who's condenser are you running? Can you recommend a good A/C guy in SA for evacuation and charging that understands the specs on our system? I appreciate your help.

Yes, the rear decklid has been opened up under the turbo tail to increase air flow.
The condenser is from ACKits.com. It is a massive 15.5" x 30.5" aluminum parallel flow.

I live in Helotes and have all the equipment for evacuating and charging R-134a. R-12 I don't know.

The turbo tail slides over the top of the decklid mounted condenser and fans.
