Output flange Swap....early and late 901 transaxles

I am interested in updating my transaxle to a 5 speed from its current 4 speed.
The car currently has a 902/14 (mag case) (yes its a 1969 912). And I have a 902/02 from an earlier car (1967 912, aluminum case).

The newer trans has larger output flanges (3.75" center to center bolt holes across diameter). The older trans has 3.10" hole centers. I see in the Pelican catalogue that these take different half shaft assemblies.

Can I simply swap the output flanges onto the earlier trans and use the existing half shafts?

Thanks in advance. I have also been enjoying reading up on trans issues but could not find any specifics on this swap.
