Stupid quick question: where do the rubber pad strips go on the gas tank?

Bobboloo (Bobby) was kind enough to send me 2 rubber rectangular insulating pads which are suppose to glue to the tank tire area. What position do they get applied? Viewing from the front of the car - 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock? 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock? Other? TIA!

I've had 3 SC's, none had the pads glued.

In fact, on all of them, it was pad, singular at about 11.

My '88 has one pad. It's at the 1:00 point.

That's adding a lot of unnecessary weight to the front of the car, isn't it?

Has nothing to do with the question at hand, and I don't even have a stock tank anymore, instead a fuel cell, but I've always been curious: does that dome-shaped part of the tank somehow fill with fuel or fill only far enough that an air bubble is compressed to the extent that it can be by the total weight/pressure of the fuel in the tank? I assume the latter is the case.

I think some would burp out of the vent when you drive the car.

Sorry for the delay. There are no pads on my '68 stock tank and I believe it is still the original finish. Tire could have worn them off, though, so take it as you like.

Gentlemen - thank you all for taking the time to answer my stupid question. Since I had two pads I cut them both in half but only used 3 instead of 4...to save weight . Glued them in at 11, 12, and 1 o'clock positions.
No surprise that they are not on the '68 tank since they were probably just free floatin' on the later tanks. I needed some padding since I opted not to SKS Stoneguard it. I was going for that poor man's 100L tank look with bare metal front compartment.

Nice looking boot. One question: I still have yet to find out what the depression is in the upper tray (to the driver's left of the steering linkage). I replicated it anyway, but have no idea what the heck it's for. Any ideas?
