My understanding, which may not be correct, is that the numbers you give (the last three digits) are part of the production numbers which indicate the order in which a particular chassis and engine were manufactured. You will need to supply the whole vin and engine # to narrow down what you need to know--car (911, 912); year of car; type of car (T,E,S,etc.); model (targa or coupe); then sequence numbers (last four digits).

For the engine, the whole number will determine if the engine is the correct type and model for the particular car, but the exact engine that was installed in the factory for a particular chassis can only be determinde by the factory COA, not the serial #s. The serial #s will narrow down the correct engine to the model and year of the car.

In short, we need more information to answer your question.

MARTIN AIDE- $110 to PCNA will answer your question. It has the transmission and engine serial numbers as originally installed. Then you can hang it in the bathroom!

If you have the original maintenance record booklet on page two you will see the
chassis serial nr. and below it the engine serial nr.

Porsche never matched the engines and chassis on these cars, in the sense that there were the same digits in both numbers. There is a correct engine for each chassis but only Porsche knows what those are, unless the numbers were recorded in the owner's books when the car was sold. The internal production number for the car also bears no relationship to the chassis number.
