Max size wheels for 3.2
 

For a Euro ride height, standard bodied 3.2 Carrera would these wheels fit?
I know the arches would have to be rolled.

Ruf speedlines 8 x 17 with 215 x 45 tyres & 10 x 17 with 255 x 40 tyres.

I think for the narrow body cars Ruf put 9 x17s on the rear.

Had some good replys on Impactbumpers.com with the consensus that they will fit.
So what do you think?

This is good advice with the caveat that the size wheel and tire combo listed are at the maximum. For instance, I recently upgraded to Fikse 17 x 8 with ET (offset) of 32 mm on front, and 17 x 9 with ET of 18 mm on the rear. The rear 255x40's work with no rub problem. However, the 8" front rubbed the driver side tub and both fender lips with 225x45. I reduced the tire size on the 8" front to 215x45 and all seems to be ok so far. Next weekend Driver Education event will be the true test, though.

Any 8 from ET23 -32 will touch the inner wall of the tub at or near full lock this isn't a big issue, many place an ss plate there, most ignore it. As the ET of an 8 gets smaller it gets nearer to the lips, this is an issue as the wheel can catch on a lip and cause a lot of damage. To avoid this use ET nearer 32 and exise the lips completely, rather than just fold them up. Tire radius also has an effect, 235/40x17 will have fewer issues than 235/45x17 because of reduced tire radius. For a relatively painless fit 225/40x17 on 7 ET ~25 is best

in back I have seen 10s used but was extremely uncomfortable w/ their fit, on a dedicated track car maybe, for street use nope. again tire size and suspension setup will make a difference. On a reasonably low 911 I have been able to use 9.5 ET 19 w/ 275/40x17 tires, both the lips and oil lines and suspension bolts need modification to do this. For a painless fit 255/40 on 9 E~ET15 is best

You will probably need spacers. My 88 cab (lower too low) can run stock wheels and tires from my C2 turbo. Rears @ 265 are okay, but because the car is almost low rider status, the fronts are better at 215. Good luck.

I fit 8x18 w 225-40/18 fronts, with 9.5x18 w 265-35/18s rear and it is as tight a fit as I can get without problems. Lips are rolled, rear camber must be -0.5 or greater, no rubbing lock to lock on the fronts, barely clears tie rods by millimeters. Rear torsions have been upped to 29s to minimize tire rubbing inside fenders on hard turns, and are maybe no more than three milimeters from the swingarm adjustment bolt. The RUF Yellowbird uses 10" wide rears but can do so because its one piece wheels use a flat machined lip, vs most three piece and and aftermarket rims such as mine which have a rolled flared lip that widens the effective rim width.

If thats a real Ruff, which it appears to be, the 10s can be fited because the rear arches were extended an inch ot two. Normally Ruff only offered 9s ET17.7 for the rear of an SC/Carrera

Its true that the flnges of most wheel flare an additional .38" to .5" per side, but that doesn't affect wheel fit in any significant way. There is just barely enough room for a centered 275 to fit in the back w/ oem SC/Carrera flares(most of the time) if the lips are massaged, oil, line relocated and trailing arm bolts ground down. 265, 255 each have progressively more breathing room and don't require 10" wheels,

Same sort of thing in front, 245, 235, 225, 215 each is progresssivrrly easier to fit, requiring less radical supporting work.

I'd say that the 10's are just too big then unless extensive mods are done.

With nothing other than rolled fender lips, I have 245/45-16s on 8s in the front and 275/40-17s on 9s in the rear. I must have been lucky.

You also don't have oem rear flares, when adding your own there are ways to add extra room, sometimmes it's even done intentionally.

I thought about that, but have measured them and they measure the same as a '76 Carrera 3 (per my tech spec booklet). Also, a friend of mine was running this combination (still does) on an SC - he let me "try out" his tires and wheels before I bought mine. His fit with no oil line mods or shaving bolts, etc. Maybe he was lucky, too?

it also helps that you use 9s the narrower the wheel the more the tire is squezzed together at the lips, It gets a little taller and narrower.

Forgot to mention that with super low suspension I had to very slightly flatten the oil lines by about 1/4 inch in order to the clear the 265/35/18 tires on the 10 inch 3 piece 3.6 Turbo rims.

You need to also mention the brand and model of tire. I've looked at the specifications for tread width, section width, and also if the tire is square shouldered or more round...and that all makes a difference when talking about maxing out the options. Example: Some 225's are about as wide as some 245's......
