Body question, 964 or 993 to a 74 rs

Hello all, what I was wondering / thinking about is buying a 964 or 993 and converting it to look like a 73 / 74 RS. I’ve see early 911’s converted into 993’s but not the other way around. Has anyone seen this done before or is it even possible? Does anyone sell the parts for this conversion? I want the reliability power and the amenities of a 964/ 993 and the look of the early RS. Thanks Jason

I'd go with the 964 as the rear fender flares are still round, unlike the 993 fender flares. Plus it would be a shame to cut up a 993.

993 has a taller front trunk box , different rockers, and rear flares/lamp assembly set up= wrong car to do a back date with.
964 also has a deep front trunk box which will necessitate running the additional chin spoiler on the bottom of the 73 RS or RSR front bumper. Otherwise you will see the bottom few inches of the trunk. Some have cut a wedge section from the trunk floor, repositioned the battery to reduce this part hanging down

Out back, you will have to remove the reflector mounting metal and rework the tail lamp areas to accept the earlier rear bumper and tailamp assemblies.
The exhaust system will have to be worked on to clear the rear bumper set up too- just too tight a fit to the body

Front fenders could be modified to the early 73 turn signal areas, but this has to be fabricated in steel or molding in fiberglass parts from series 900 (posts here from time to time)

we can sell you the rest, including a backdate hood too

Money spent that will never be re-couped IMO.

A beautiful backdated 83 converted to an RS was on ebay 3 weeks ago bidding died at $23,000. If you like the 74 carrera you are better off looking for a USA car and restoring it. Better return as they are a $30,000 to $40,000 car done well.
Opinions on this one (Mac this means you!)

74 euro carrera's are selling strong!

That was one of the things that I was wondering about. And I agree about cutting up a perfectly good 993. I assure you that I’m not going to butcher up a pristine, low mile 911 no matter what the year... But if it’s just fender’s bumpers and lamps that I need to change to get the look that I’m after it’s not that big of deal.
