engine serial number

Hello, Im new to this sight and I dont have any Porsche mechanics around so I need some help. I have a Intermeccanica wide body speedster replica with a 3.0 ltr. and 5 spd. tranny. The car was built in 1989 and I dont have any info on the year of the motor. Where do I find the serial number for the motor and how do I tell what year it is. It is fuel inj. ect. Thanks for any help. Tom

Welcome to the board. Pictures are obligatory for new members.
The engine number is to the right of the fan and on the block. The numbers run vertically. A 3.0 will be:
1978 628xxxx ( 930/04) or 658xxxx (930/06)
1979 629xxxx ( 930/04) or 659xxxx (930/06)
1980 640xxxx (930/07)
1981 641xxxx (930/16)
1982 64Cxxxx (930/16)
1983 64Dxxxx (930/16)

The engine type is also important and much harder to find. It is just behind the engine serial number, on the flat part of the engine and should look like the number in brackets above.
