Outer Door Handle Seals ~ Question

Hi Guys -

I have my interior doors apart, cleaning and replacing everything that's gone wrong in the last 30 years.

My question is, when removing the outer door handles to replace the outer seals,
Is it really just removing the two socket nuts as shown in the 101 projects? I want to be sure that when I do this I will not screw up the barrel or have the entire thing just fall apart on me.

Thanks for any guidance.

You just remove two nuts and the whole handle will come off from the out side of the door.
the nut toward the back is a bit of fun.

Thanks Ron.

Reach around and hold onto the door handle so it does not fall or scrape your paint when it comes loose. Be careful with your pins in the lock cylinder portion.

Take it all apart, clean and lube everything. Same thing with the actuator inside the door. A little emory cloth and grease may save you a door trigger in the future.

Here's a pic I took for a how to a while ago...84 Carrera for reference. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1219782166.jpg

Just FYI....

I held the door handle on with blue painters tape so that when I removed the nuts the handle wouldn't fall off and scratch the door. Definitely be patient with the rear nut....

Trigger

Side question guys, my trigger broke (79 SC) and from the pics it looks like I could just replace it. Is that possible, and are there any run-of-the mill cars that use the same item? (not many SCs in the breakers over here!)
Cheers

Not to hijack this thread, but how difficult is it to re-key the door locks by changing the tumblers? Are the tumbler kits available?

My '83 cab has three -- count 'em three -- different keys. One key for the passenger door lock, one for the driver's door and one for the ignition. It would be nice to eventually get back to one key to bind them all and in the darkness find them (to paraphrase Tolkien). ;)

Pretty simple...Waynes book or http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles%5Cmult_lock_rekey%5Cmult_lock_rekey.h tm.
