Just put engine back in 78 SC clutch does not grab at all ideas??
 

I just put the engine back in my 1978 SC. When I hooked up the axles I realized that I am able to spin them freely therefore the clutch is not engaging at all. It is in gear, I switched into all 5 gears and saw the same result. So before putting oil in it (the engine) I figured I better find out if I have to pull it all back apart again.

I torqued the pressure plate down to spec. Made sure the fork went properly into the throw out bearing. I am just reusing my old clutch and throw out bearing assembly... Did I screw something up with the clutch linkage??? I completely removed the clutch linkage and saw the same behavior.

Open Diff? Make sure you are not just spinning the other side.

It is open diff and the other wheel is spinning. However, it should not be able to spin at all without turning over the engine... Or am I missing something with open diff? I would be very happy to hear that I have to turn both wheels the same direction in order for it to be transfered through flywheel but this somehow does not sound correct.

Yes, both wheels must turn the same direction to transfer power to the flywheel.

If you spin one wheel forward and the other spins backward, the differential is open and working correctly to do its job. The flywheel is holding the ring gear steady and the spiders are transferring your torque to the opposite wheel.
