My first Porsche - prices and issues

Contemplating my first Porsche purchase - still researching with help of 8th edition of "The Used 911 Story," this forum, etc. Before research I leaned toward 993's, now not so sure. I've seen a variety of advertised prices 993's; from the low 30's to high 50+ are they holding their values? Are Cabs less sought after than Targa's? Book notes the wiring harness problem, carbon buildup, along with very short clutch life are some of 993 problems - how common are these?

Any other model favorites that are a good value and reasonable to maintain?
