Oil barrier shield between bottom of engine and heat exchangers?
 

I would be really surprised if no one has ever devised some sort of barrier shield to keep oil from dripping from the cam tower or valve cover area directly onto their heat exchangers, causing them to smoke. Has anyone tried to do this? Maybe some sort of sheet metal angled downward from the exhaust port area to the outside of the heat exchangers, which would allow oil to drip onto the street instead of the heat exhchangers. Anyone?

I'd wonder about interfering w/ engine cooling...

Why not fix the oil leaks? :confused:

+1 on fixing the leaks. Why fix the symptoms and not the root cause?
It would probably take more time to bolt on a device that "may" interfere with cooling, than it would to drop or partial drop and replace the o-rings and gaskets causing the leak. When my car had a leak that dripped on the heat exchangers it was also clogging up the cooling fins on my engine oil cooler and the barrel of the front cylinder on that side.

It's just a hypothetical question. Anyway, sometimes, a guy has to pay the rent before dropping his engine to fix a leak--or does that just sound really dumb? Of course, changing O-rings or valve cover gaskets are easy fixes that would take less effort than devising a sort of barrier. But what if a leak came from the Loctite seal between the cam tower and the head? That is not an easy fix to my knowledge--Or is it??? Having a small oil leak is really nuisance more than anything, so to have a way to mitigate the smoking seems more practical than essentially rebuilding the top end just to fix a little oil leak.

Where did your leak originate? I hunting a leak that appears to be coming from the vicinity of my oil cooler and is dripping on my heat exchanger.
