Converting a 3.0 into a 3.6 for Auto-X

Hey Guys, Ive just aquired a 3.0 w/915 tranny out of an 84 SC. It will be a winter project to upgrade my 2.7 for next year. What threads can you refer me to or suggestions for increasing the displacement for the 3.0? Its main use will be Auto-X so what engine size would work good? I've been told by a knowledgeable friend to put a 3.2 crank in and use 95mm jugs and pistons, run about 11:1 comp with GE 40 cams (already have) with the 40 webers I'm running.

What do ya think?

minor detail, but if you're looking for parts down the road, SC's were produced up to 1983 and the Carrera 3.2 started production in 1984. Don't believe there was an 84 SC. You might want to check the engine number and type to make sure you know what you are starting with.

I'm sure you are correct! Actually I've bought the whole car but don't have it home yet. I think it's a 82 SC because one thing I'm sure of is it has a 3.0 and an alum. case 915 tranny that I am immediately putting in my 2.7 while I change my early "S" cams in the 2.7 to the GE 40's.

I am not an expert but if you are running Webber 40's these will be your limiting factor to how far you go with your 3.0.

If you just open up the intake ports a bit, put a good exhaust on it and set it up right it can pull 220-240hp w the stock cams and pistons.

You might get away w keeping your crank and make it into a 3.2 short stroke w a set of modified S cams. That can be a very very nice motor.

If you want to sell your carbs and get a set of 48's you could use 102mm LN Engineering Nickies Cylinders w your crank for a short stroke 3.5. Get a 964 or 993 crank and rods and you can make is a 3.7.

Keep the compression around 9.5 and you can run a single plug system. To go higher compression you need to run race fuel or twin plug which can make for a good running motor but adds $2-3k to your build.

Again, a 3.0 w stock cams and carbs can be a great AutoX motor.

It is only money...
