Im lazy and just thought about getting a quick answer to this, is the rear heater blower controled by the unit in the dash or the one in between the seat? I have a 80sc coupe. thanks

It's controlled by the one between the seats. The dash control (bottom lever) only directs the heat from the dash to the footwells.

I have an '83 cab, I thought the levers between the seat only openned the heaeter boxes allowing heat to enter the car and the rear (engine compartment) heat blower motor is controlled by the dash lever, pushed to the far right for 1,2,3 speed funtions.

The dash lever (upper lever) is for the fresh air blower in the front of the car.

You guys realize that all this is covered in the owner's manual? I'd wager that you could still find a copy of one, if yours is missing.

There are 3 systems at play in cars that came with factory air.
Dash board controls:
The upper lever controls the amount of fresh air coming into the car, full right has the fresh air dampers wide open and the front blower motor running at full speed. Later cars had an additional lever in the top slot to independently control the blower speed. The next lever down directs the flow of the above fresh air to defrost vents on the dash or the lower vents under the dash. The lower lever with the red knob allows you to direct heated air thru the same fresh air vents and operates the same way as the center lever. Where does the heated air come from? The two levers between the seats! So in theory you can have cool fresh air blowing up from the defrost vents and into your face and hot air blowing from the under dash vents and melting your shoes. The combinations will boggle the mind. Confused? Lets add an AC system.
The AC uses the center dash vent and the two side vents along with a center bulkhead vent [under the dash]. A totally amazing system, german engineering at its finest. To be kind to the factory, at the time is was the best they could do when the american market demanded air conditioning in a sports car!
