Intermittent Sunroof Operation

My (1973.5) sunroof works but only sometimes.

Pretty sure I am mashing the H&(* out of the button -- both directions as it was part open, but it won't move.

I know it has a clutch so I assume I should hear something spinning if the clutch is broken of de-clutched or something (??? true)

Should I assume it is not getting elec. power, since I hear nothing when it does not work?

I have had a number of elec. probelms since the morons that painted the car sanded it - assume they got dust in the elec. switches & contacts everywhere....

Well, you have to check the obvious incl the fuse, wiring and connections. I had to take my switch apart, clean and rebend some internal connection pieces. If you use a test light you can travel along the circuit and see where the juice stops flowing. If the motor is getting power, then you should hear it spinning as you said, unless it has burned out. The fuse is in the front fuse box. The switch pushes out of the bottom of the dash, and the motor is accessible via the zipper above the rear window.
