Trailing arm bushing install ?

Putting my 79 SC back together after a complete suspension re-build and I am about to re-install the rear trailing arms, already replaced the bushings with OEM rubber. Consulted Bentley manual and searched forum threads but no mention of any lube on the out surfaces of the bearing plates???

Install dry? Your help is appreciated.

Thanks

I am not an expert but there should not be any lube used on rubber bushings as it could degrade the material and you want them to twist. If they act as a bearing surface they will ware quickly.

I installed the inside bush on the arm and then into the chassis first if I recall and used the spring plate to pull it it. Then installed the outer bush and used longer bolts to pull in the plate. I also did use some soap to make it easer.

I do get some squeaks only w extreme suspension deflection. I think that if you supper glue the bushs to the arm to emulate the factory's bonding it would keep this from happening. Neatrix busings used to come with this but not any more I think.

Thanks 911ST, I am talking about the inner bushings that attach to the torsion bar housing. Of course no lube on rubber, but wondering about the metal outer housing where it meets the attachment point on the torsion bar tube.

Install dry. These are press fit.

Chucks,

Thanks for reply, actually I have already pressed the bushings into the trailing arms, what I meant was, any lube between the steel outer flange of the bushing and the mount on the torsion bar tube itself? Seems like an opportunity for galling. ?

By the way, I have your PB's newly installed up front!

Thanks,

Mike
