Bilstein Upgrade-post No2

Hi again
I am reposting again as I have had lookers but no answers so I figured that while it is the weekend in the States and there are maximum watchers on the forum I thought that it might be worth having another go , surely someone out there has the knowledge.

Hi all,
Looking to upgrade my Boge Struts with the Bilstein Sport shocks but here is my dilemma.
My model is a 1985 Australian delivered coupe [WPOZZZ91ZFFS103442] and that just happens to be the the year that there is a Pt. No. change.
One set are listed listed for 73-85 model years and the others for 85-89 model years.
The change appears to be in the March/April period.
My car has a built July '85 plaque on it under the Australian compliance plate so I'm thinking that this could have been something that was put on in Australia rather than Germany so I do not want to take the risk until I'm completely clear what is going on
Does anyone know what the exact difference is and why.
The numbers are different for all shocks.

The Pt.No.s on the strutis incidentally are:- #911-341-041-03 [left]
# 911-341-042-03 [right]

Living in Australia and purchasing expensive items from the US I don't wish to order the wrong ones as it is a little difficult for return.

Thanks R.Dave

I don't know the exact answer to your question but it might be worth a call to Bilstein and give them the strut part number you have as well as the VIN and they should be able to tell what you need. It may also be worth your while to pull one insert out so you can measure and see what is inside the strut. Best I can do, sorry.

iirc the biggest different is whether the insert cap is threaded on the inside or the outside, and also a pin which holds it at the bottom or not.....
check out my old thread for bilsteins number and what the outside threaded strut caps look like, the rubber part in the cap is the wiper for the fat sport insert :)

my inserts are #f4-p36-0115-ho

Thank you kind sirs for your assistance.
I now know what I'm looking for. Ther appears to be a significant difference. Glad I posed the question before ordering.
My car falls into the later catergory for 1985 but has what appears to be the earlier strut config. I will investigate further

bilstein's # is 1-800-537-1085
give them a call, they've always been VERY helpfull with figuring out what you have and what you need imo
do you have the strut assembly out yet? maybe pull the wheel and snap a pic?

Hi Bell,
I wasn't going to bother puling out the strut cartridge until I had the parts but I figured what the heck, it only takes 30 minutes to pull them out.
As it turns out it appears I have thew earlier type with the internal thread yours as I understand it is the later outside threadhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1221006177.jpg
Thanks again for your help

From the Red Book:

F Program cars were produced from August 1984 to July 1985.

Carrera (ROW) Chassis Serial Number WPOZZZ91ZFS10001-3529, Engine Serial Number 63F00001-on

Number Produced: 3529

It would appear that your car "WPOZZZ91ZFFS103442" (I think you have one too many "F's" was at the end of the production year. They only made 87 more ROW Carrera Coupes after yours for model year 1985. I would be almost certain your Carrera was made in July 1985. Hope this helps.
