Help! installing Rennline rear Monoballs
Anyone got experience installing rear rennline monoballs ? I have installed one and it will not fit into the bracket on the body, it is just to big  Can anyone give me some hints ? I have tried to "tap" it into place with a hammer but no luck. Should it be such a tight fit ?
need a beer after 3 hours of frustration ! HELP:( |
Anyone got any ideas ?

Don't know what year your car is . . . and it may not matter anyways. But on my 69E installing Elephant Racing Monoballs on the rear controls arms . . . yes . . . sliding the monoballs into the chassis mount is a PITA. Mine was very tight and basically you have to "walk" it in. First thing I did was clean out the inside of the mount (where the monoball slides into) to eliminate any unnessasary resitence. And then with all your strength press it in. I found using the control arm as leverage . . . I was able to do it. I resisted using a hammer cause I didn't want to do any damage. A little grease might help too.
Hang in there . . .you'll get it done. |
Might try putting them in the freezer.
If you arms are alloy, try some Emery cloth inside them to clean them out. I have a sanding drum that goes on the end of a drill motor that I would be tempted to try w caution If it fits but is tight can you make a press out of a socket or two. One big enough to rest on the loop in the arm, the other on the outside rim of the bush and a threaded rod or bolt thought it pulling the sockets toward each other. Make sure you do not side load the bearing excessively. Not an expert just some thoughts. |
No way would I sand the inside of the arms! They aren't the problem.
My Elephant Racing monoballs fit perfectly. The only hard part about that project was the three hours spent getting the mounting bolts off. Truly, the worst fasteners I've ever dealt with. |
I just spoke with rennline - the space between the two "wings" on the bracket need to be 55.5 mm - I only have just on 55mm. Apparently if the rubber ones are worn and someone tightens the bolt too much the wings will bend in. I'm going to get a piece of threaded rod with nuts on the inside of the bracket and try to stretch the bracket the 1mm I need to get the monoball in. Here's hoping !

The threaded rod worked a treat - monoballs now in !
