newbie needs help with tire size
Aloha from Kauai
I have fun and learn lots lurking here and reading other pelican sites. Need help figuring what to replace the fronts on my 1980 sc.with. Came with Dunlop sp sport 5000 size P205/55 zr 16 89w on fuchs 7 Jx16 offset 23.3 .car is lowered near the max, and has lots of neg camber but still rubs the fender sometimes in high compression turns . Tires have worn the inside 1 1'2" of tread off , lots on rest of tire. Will a smaller tire size allow better camber setup and not rub? Are these just the wrong wheels for the car? Is the camber adjusted at the top of the strut? Will the camber move toward neutral if I raise the ride height? We have no good p car shops on kauai, so I need to sort this out for myself. All help is welcome Thanks tevake |
Yes, raising the car will help with the rubbing. Camber is adjusted at the top of the strut but I would caution you to not start messing around with alignment unless you have knowledge of camber, caster, and toein/out. Either way, you really should take it to an alingment shop after raising or changing the camber settings. As long as the shop can get your car on the ramps they should be able to set it up, even if the aren't a porsche shop.
I would suggest that even rolling the fender lips would be an option. |
