"Click" when putting into reverse - normal?

I replaced all of the shifting bushings (coupler, ball joint, and sleeve) and after putting the coupler back in, I get a very audible click sound when I put it into reverse from the rod snapping past a metal rocking arm inside the shifter. I had never heard it before but shifting was a little sloppy. Is this normal (sounds reassuring) or does this mean the coupler might need more adjusting? Thanks.

I could use some feedback on this. If it helps, my shifter is "a one-off, 901-type shifter used only in '72. Thereafter ('73-'86), PAG used a different shift housing for the 915 gearbox" according to 911pcars from another post.

I've not owned that shifter/trans combo, but I have had both style shifters on a 901. Only the shift pattern is different AFAIC, so the operation should not include that snap or click. I'd certainly experiment with the coupler adjustment.
