Oil tank powdercoat?
Hi,
I would like to Powdercoat my oil tank on my 68 911. I am not sure if the oil filter flange is welded in place or if there is a seal. I dont want the heat to destroy a seal. Any help would be great.

I would not powder coat an oil tank - I would fear powder getting into the inside and then contaminating the engine.
I just did mine, I had it steamed out thoroughly and then used the Wurth high temperature enamel - basically a whole can on it. It took some heat (just out in the sun) and a few days to really harden fully, but now it feels tough and I KNOW there is nothing but stainless steel in that tank.... D. |

Clean it to surgically clean with paint stripper, gas and then acetone, bring to a local Cerakote provider and have them shoot it with E-100 Blackout.

Cerakote is obviously the best choice, rust oleum satin 8:1 hardener works too. I thought about powder coating mine but decided against it. Powder on stainless might not adhere well without blasting and I didn’t wanna deal with trying to prep and blast an oil tank for obvious reasons.

Thanks. That looks like the new plan.
