'82SC Ignition Switch Assembly with Tumbler/Steering Lock Mech

I need the ignition assembly without the electrical portion. The tab that fits into the electrical part and starts the car broke on mine.

I see no way to repair it soooo..... please let me know if you have one.

Mine broke last year, but I fixed it. What happened to it? What are the details?

Turned the key and it was dead. I thought it was the electrical portion so I went out today and picked one up. When I removed the old one I noticed that a small piece of white metal fell out. It turns out that that piece is the end of the shaft that fits into the electrical part and turns the ignition on. That explains the no spring action when I turned the key on yesterday. Plugged the old electrical part back into the harness and turned it with a stubby Phillips and voila, car starts. I guess I could drill a hole in the stubby and put it on my keyring but somehow I think I'd feel better using the key again. Actually, I still need the key to unlock the steering wheel.

Humph... That's a little beyond my already low skill level... My key wouldn't turn in the ignition - and I almost bought a new one. But after examining it closely, I was able to solve the problem by adjusting the alignment with a tiny screw around the back. I was hoping your problem was similar.

Try calling Randy at Whaletail Canada. He might be able to help you out with a new one, although it won't be good to have 2 different keys...

I already talked to Randy, funny thing is so did 3 other people within the last day or so and he doesn't have any of these left. There is a way to re-key the new one to your old key. It's a bit tricky from what I hear but it can be done.

I noticed that I posted this in the wrong forum so it's no wonder I haven't received many responses.

I've re-posted in the proper forum but just in case.... I still need one of these if anyone can help.
