I want to check for debris on the inlet for this cooler on my 1985 911 while the engine is IN the car. And I removed the six bolts that hold the cover on so that it is loose. But, parts on the fuel injector rail prevent me from lifting the cover off of the cooler. My questions are:
1. Is there a way to get the cover off without removing the fuel injector rail? 2. If not, what is involved with removing the rail? Is it just a matter of catching some spilled fuel then bolting it back in place? 3. Would loosening the engine and transmission mount bolts allow for lowering the engine enough to remove the cover?

Not certain with the engine in the car but you may have to remove the fuel damper/reg back there and the fuel rail. There is a clip on top of each injector that pulls out sideways and then expect some resistance pulling the rail up from the o rings on top of the injectors. Good luck. I tried once with the engine in and gave up. Ken

Tigerrat,
Thanks for the post. Yes, the engine is in the car (I edited my original post to now indicate that). When you remove the fuel rail are there certain parts that you have to replace? It seems like anything rubber would be a "one use" only part. Art

I would probably re use the O rings unless you get the urge to refurb the injectors. The O rings don't get any real wear. I don't know if you can buy just that O ring. Pelican sells a package that includes all the replaceable parts on the injector. I sent my injectors off for cleaning and Witchhunter replaced all these bits. Ken
