'71 fuel pump replacement

The Bosch fuel pump on my car appears to be dead. '71 911T 2.2 with Zenith carbs. I put 12 volts to the pump on the bench and it only makes a barely audible hum, but draws 4 amps.

Is it possible to rebuild the pump? Or worth the effort? One of the screws on top is stuck, so it would take some effort to even open it.

Pelican actually sells the OEM pump, but it's almost $900...which I can't afford.

It looks like I can get an aftermarket fuel pump that provides the proper flow and pressure. The thing I'm not sure of is what to do with the fuel return line. The Bosch had three fuel connections, one to the engine and two to the tank. What's the purpose of circulating fuel on a carbureted engine? One thread I read thought it was to cool the fuel pump...? Can I just cap off the return at the gas tank, and does anyone know which line is supply and which is return on the tank?

Also, I was thinking of putting a fuel pressure gauge in the engine compartment. Does anyone have any mounting ideas or pictures?

Thanks, Brad

Give Richard Parr a shout. He's got every piece you need; fuel pump ($120 pierburg), pressure gauge, etc.

I believe we all make mistakes but I will not validate your poor choices and/or perversions and subsidize the results your actions.

Mine died on my '70 and my wrench put in a thumper pump for under $150. Works great. I'm not sure about the return line though...
