Unusual door pillar

Nice looking car on eBay, but something caught my eye.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1970-Porsche-911T-Very-Low-Mileage-NOS-Time-Capsule_W0QQitemZ300258825179QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20Tr ucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item300258825179&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65%3A-1%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

In the photo of the passenger side door pillar, there is no dimple above the latch--the location where the later 72 had the oil filler handle. I did a quick look at other pre-72 cars on eBay, and those that showed the passenger pillar all had the dimple. Does anyone know if there were pre-72 cars made without the dimple, or could this car have a replacement part? Just curious

Pre-72 should not have the dimple. If they do, then they have a later replacement panel.

That feature was supposedly used for 1972 models only. Too many people getting their oil tanks filled with gasoline at service stations. The car on ebay does not have that feature because it is an earlier model.

Except I have two 69's, both with the dimple and they have original panels. The few pictures I could get on the web of early cars showed the dimple. Certainly, the dimple would be there for the RHD cars (?). I've seen too many early cars with the dimple to think they all had replacement panels. I may be wrong, but I hope to hear some more feedback, though I'm beginning to think this is one of those Porsche quirks where cars were assembled with whatever was on the "top of the bin"--panels for RHD or panels for LHD--didn't much matter.

edit: After a bit more "research" using whatever pictures I could find, it looks like the dimple panel is the exception. I guess my eye was used to seeing it, given my personal experience, so the correct panel looked strange. Just another curious Porsche technicality...
