perhaps i have too much negative camber up front?
dangIT!. i just bought the wevo cambermaster. install was a snap. took it to my local alignment guy. he dialed in neg 2 degrees easy. now i get a knock in the front end, drivers side. i tightened everything down. it only really knocks on compression. smooth bumps = no noise. sharp bumps like highway joints, i get the knock. i have bilstiens, so do you think that thicker section at the top of the strut tube is going hardup against the car body? it did knock going to the shop, a bit. i had -1.7 going there. any solution (cheap) that i can do? or do i need to dial back on the camber? i have a time trial this weekend, so time is of the essence...

Just a WAG on my part but did you check to see if the tire was hitting or rubbing against anything?
|
Damn -2 camber is a lot for a car you drive on the street. -1 is more the usual setting.
|
did you tighten up the strut all the way down the threads?
happened to me once. Bill K |
my street driving is limited to just driving to the track.

Might check the alignment of the steering tie rod end. It might have gotten twisted w the aliment. Also check that you have the same turns lock to lock to make sure your steering rack is centered correctly.
|
Take the weight off the front and see if you have some play in the top bushing of your bilstiens, with the additional angle it could cause it to clunk if they are shot.

Confirm the tech reinstalled the large flat washer on top of the strut. It may be difficult to see under the Cambermeister mount bracket. Without it, the smallish lock washer and nut bears down on little but rubber. A loose strut nut will also create this noise.
Sherwood PS: Disregard my comments as it relates to the Weltmeister product. I overlooked you have the Wevo items. |

I installed the camber king myself and I couldn't get nut on top of the strut tight enough with out an impact gun. I would check the strut dust cover. Mine was flopping around. I had the issue resolved when the alignment was done. I have 1.5 degree and no issues. I wouldn't think and extra 1/2 of degree that you have would be an issue. |
thanks everyone. i did hit the nut with an impact. (cordless, maybe i will quit being lazy, and unroll the airhose). i ditched the strut dust cover, and elected to use a 4x4 offroad rubber unit.

Whom did you use for alignment? From whom did you buy the WEVO product? Do they have tech support? WEVO make excellent products and are experts with few equals. I might give them a call if I had checked everything else logically mentioned.
I remember driving to Buttonwillow for an event with 1.5 to 2 degrees negative on my track tires years ago. Destroyed the inside of a fresh set of BFG Comp T/A R1's. Most of you young whippersnappers never even heard of those tires. Anyway, that type of experience drove me to adjustable camber plates and self-alignment. |
I had a similar problem when I installed camber plates. I left off the strut dust cover and found out the threads would not tighten all the way down (without the cover there is a gap) so a spacer is needed at the top of the strut.

thank you so much for all of the great advice.
ironically, the best advice came from hayden (wevo) himself. what a guy! he was very forthcoming. he told me some units came out with a wobble/looseness in the monoball portion of the camberplate. it takes two people to find it. i got up on my bumper and acted like a poorly paved freeway. JP911 could put his finger at the strutnut, camber plate union and feel both portions moving independently of each other. i will call wevo today, and hopefully get a replacement in time for sat/suns HPDE. |
That was my guess. knocking from the front when hitting bumps is often caused by a broken or loose or worn "tower bearing" or whatever you choose to call it.
|
ok, better now...i almost threw the camberplate across the street. the second unit, had a smaller bushing hole..the strut will not poke through it.
still at it. |
