86+ lower seats?

Is it true that Porsche lowered the seats about 1" in 1986 and newer Carrera?

If so, dose anyone have a part number for the lower bracket for the Driver side?

Thanks in advance.

20mm, to be precise. Sorry I don't have the part number, but Pelican's parts catalog has all the PET diagrams for you to locate the part.

Unfortunately, a call to pelican was not able to make this happen.

They said to just hack my existing which make some sense but not my first choice.

Those brackets are welded and I don't think you can buy them new. You could get them from a wrecker, but do keep in mind that welding will be required and there are gas and electric wires that will be destroyed. With the removal of the gas (on driver side) and electric wires (on passenger side) to do this, you would be better off welding angle iron to the side of the tunnel about 1" below the top to achieve the desired lowering of the seats.

4sd911,

Exactly what do you mean .........with the angle iron?

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks for the reminder on the fuel line.

As to the angle iron, you are referring to creating a shelf off of each side after removing the stock units. Are you saying this keeps the fuel line out of play?

I was thinking this alone w the seat spring mod noted in the Pelican modifications area to give me another 1.5"+ helmet room.

I don't know how difficult they would be to remove but I have these on an '87 parts car that I don't need. I'll look tomorrow or the next day to see if these are something that could be cut out and reused.

I haven't done this myself but others on this forum have. To do this you need to remove the stock mounts, use a spot weld remover bit, it is a small hole saw with a spring loaded pin. You must take care in not going through both the mounts and the tunnel metal or you will damage the fuel line, you just cut through the mount metal at each spot weld. You would then need to weld the angle iron to the side of the tunnel, the fuel line will be in jeopardy, and should be removed before hand. You would then need to weld another angle iron to the door side after removing the other mount, at the same height to be level. You will need a experienced welder to do this, it would be very easy to burn a hole through the sheet metal.

I did something similar. At the time many recommend bolting square pipe to the floor, that is what I did. I used square aluminum with large washers under neath to obtain the proper height. This was recommended by other shops as well as magazine articles, they no longer advise this method.

Also something I did in the past. If you are using non-electric seats by removing the sliders and bolting a piece of sheet metal to the mount and bolting the seat to the sheet metal you can get 3/4" more room. But of course the seat will be stationary.

I wonder if the seat is more narrow than the stock mounts can you use angle stock bolted to the stock mounts and hang the seat inbetween them kind of like a Recaro side mount.

lowered widened seats

Hi All,
We are just finished with our latest addition, a seat for the 74 and younger cars.
We lower the seating position, can increase the width, increase the side support and upholster them again in the original or custom materials.
So many came to us with problems of headroom or to narrow at the waist and the lacking side support and missing lap belt hole as well as proper guidance for the shoulder harnesses.
We will do that in an exchange programm, but if you love your seats we can convert them as well.
We will have the prices ready by the beginning of next month and have it posted on our website. This image is only an image and not the ready made seat.
