Save your beer money. 911 SCs are not drag queens. Put em on the track and say "lets go 10 or so laps at max speed" and see what the results are.

I don't think you'll eat it up. I think at best it will be close (curb weight is actually about 3700 lbs). This is on a closed race circuit right?

You only have 180 elderly hp, he has 303 young ones. And if you're down to 2,300/2,500 pounds, you must have done a lot more than a top-end rebuild, I should think...

The Germans never considered accelerating in a straight line to be "racing."

That, my friend, says it all about Porsche. Nice one Steve.

Most likely would.

Try comparing it to another car of that vintage and you would have the advantage. Apples/oranges IMHO.

Yep. In 1979 my 930 was arguably the baddest new car on the road, now it is nothing special compared to the power of new cars. But that isn't what owning it is about. If I wanted something that would stack up against today's best I would have bought today's best.

That's a curious statement. Were you really not aware of this?

I am pretty much surrounded my street rods and muscle cars here in Mid Michigan but that's cool.

I go to a cruise night each week that has a good selection of those cars. Funny thing, I STILL have guys coming up to check out the 911. When I start talking suspension tuning or heel and toeing they usually get the "deer in the headlight" look.
I know that most of the cars are faster/quicker than mine. I usually wait until most of the louder cars leave and then I pull out, taking first gear slowly up to about 4000 RPM's and then then letting off for just a second to get the exhaust to "snarl", then into to second and off I go, no speeding or spinning tires.

I had a guy approach me last week and want to know what muffler I had as he thought it sounded like a race car when I left the previous event. Yup, we were both on the ground looking at my flat black Flo-Pro.
not
It's all about knowing what your car's strength is. Ours are in the corners.

I would almost guarantee that if you take someone for a ride they will think you are nuts for accelerating THROUGH a corner.

No offense to your brother but is HIS car an icon?

You will be toast in 1/4 mile drag, stick to the basics that made the 911 what it is, a quick car, not a drag racer, unserpased handling in track racing, a true sports car, if you want to race, pick on TR-6'S, austin healy 3000's . An older porsche 911 will give anyone the most exhillerating combination of handling, performance and german craftsmanship that cant ge matched. Enjoy the car for what it was meant to be, a driving experience unlike any other car, new or old.

I raced an 05 Eclipse and we were nose to nose at the quarter and I was easy 10 lengths after a half mile, our cars are not totally tired against newer cars, but like has already been stated- our SCs are almost 30 years old, against the cars of today is not a straight comparison.

My first track event at VIR. I was behind a newer Corvette ZO6. Of course he left me crying on the back stretch but when the corners came, I actually was able to pass him easily. As everyone else said, these cars are made for the track.
There are many types of racing: drag, track, dirt, offroad, circle track, mudding, hill climbing, etc... Which one do you prefer?
If you wanted to look cool and still go fast, get a newer porsche or umm... a lexus...
