944 very low oil pressure please help

i have a 86 944 n/a which has just had a recon bottom end bought from a company on ebay. now it has been nothing but hastle since i put it together in the way of sensors and stuff being of a different size as it seems to be a newer bottom half than my head. i was told it was a 2.5 so it would be fine. i firstly had trouble finding a relief valve to fit as my old three piece would not fit. so i bought a second hand one piece which i believe is a 87 on. now the engine numbers apparently dont make sense of what year it could be say porsche, hense why its a nightmere.the only thing im going on is that behind the flywheel it has 87 stamped.now i couldnt get this to fire as it had no oil pressure.its a long long story but ill try to keep it as short as i can.i took the car to this company and £2000 later after not even a month i finaly fixed my oil guage, when noticing it woul start on 3 bar and when hot die to 0.5 bar and red light on. the company doesnt want to take any responserbilitys so ive gave up trying. the bottom end had new bearings done when i boaght it along with new seals recon waterpump, and second hand oil pump.it then started on just over 1 bar when cold and drop again to 0.3. ive checked all the usuall crank bolt torque, resealed the oil pump where it contacts the block, changed the sender checked the rod bearings becuase i found shavings in the sump when checking the pick up tube for cracks. i havnt got a allignment tool for the relief valve, could this be the cuase? i also had to put my old oil cooler housing on,so i dont know if theres a difference in years, along with my old oil cooler which i did flush out before i installed it.i dont even know if the valve is the right one or not. im hoping its the pump as ive run out of ideas and nearly energy, problem is i cant find any on ebay that match my one, as i dont want to risk £500 if its not the pump. any help would be grately appreciated.

Dan: I see you are new here. Welcome.

You ended up on the 911 Tech. board. You will probably get better response on the 924/944/968 board. They are located at:

Best of luck.......

It's a little difficult to read your post and it is in the wrong section, but I would start with the oil Pressure Relief valve. If you have the tool, you should be able to slide it in there and check the alignment of all the parts. Make sure that bore is clean as it can be. One little used oil booger with prevent the OPRV from seating properly and you will get a situation as you described.

Question

thanks for the reply.i did actually think that might be the culprit to begin with,i had a feeling that my relief valve as i explained in my previous message might be the wrong year also, but the reason i took off the pump in the first place was because i took out the relief valve and just cranked the engine over without the coil attached to see weather the oil would pump through the relief valve hole, and it didnt, so i changed the oil filter and tried again and still no oil came out through the hole,so i thought but might be wrong that the oil gets sucked trough the pick up tube to the pump and then the filter and then the oil cooler and relief valve,so i thought it must be the pump? any thoughts would be grately appreciated! it is driving me up the wall
