Water in my Targa

So I left my car outside last nite. Its my daily driver and so on..Last nite we had bad rain storms and this morning I had a puddle of water in the driverside floor both front and rear.It doesn't appear to be coming from the Targa seal.So what gives?I thought maybe I should consider the front little vent deal on the hood, but I dont know.I figured with all the knowledge on this board someone qwould have had to experienced this before...So where ya at TArga drivers...thnaks,john

that's pretty standard for a Targa in a storm. After killing my first DME with 1/2 inch of water in car, I mounted it on rubber extension studs, same as what holds the engine bay electrical panel to the wall.

There are smallish car covers that only cover the top and 1 foot down all around that are fast and easy to secure, but really a Targa is a car that should always be garaged.

So you think it came in from the targa top? john

I saw that headline and wondered what the question was...
Par for the course, unless you are anal about the seals/top alignment/etc
I use the set of summer drying towels for rainy driving sponges in the winter. Just don't let them sit in there after they're damp! +1 on the garage, or at least covered parking.
I also pull the mats if it's really coming down. Price of owning a targa.
All you owners of museum-quality, properly adjusted tops flame away...

I never understood when the Targa top seals were so poorly designed. I would think at the very least the top edge of the window would fit into a U channel on the molding, though it was my front corners that were the worst culprits.

Best to just not have an interior. Easier to keep dry.

you sure its not the lower left corner of the windshield seal?

Next rain storm - tape off the bottom left corner of the w/s seal w duct tape and see if no water...

Check your windshield seals, mine were shot and after replacing the windshield and seal, no more water in the car...

yamajon:

Art A may be right on. I have read several posts about 911 windshield gaskets developing leaks over time. I changed out the original windshield on my 87 Targa this summer and it eliminated about 90% of the leaking that has developed over the last year. I was worried I might find rust in the windshield area when it was removed, but thank god it was clean.

If your windshield is old or has any pitting, I would consider changing it out with a new gaslet from our host.

Mike
