msd and points

My car: 1971 w/ a 2.7 S-ish engine (S pistons / heads, solex cams, pmo carbs, other stuff). It is a street driver, driven daily. want to convert to MSD and transisterized points. I know the MSD is to be a 6A, part number 6200. what are the "pill" issues and what do I do. do i need a tach converter. what brand of points do i convert to? thanks for help, curt

Curt,

The MSD 6A has no rev limiter so your existing rotor will still do that job. Stock Bosch points wil ltrigger the MSd as long as you read the instructions and use the correct trigger wires. If you use a Pertronix, use the same trigger wire pair as points.

Try plugging the black/purple tach wire into the MSD tach terminal. If it doesn't work, you'll need to send it off to Noth Hollywood Speedo for conversion.

My 72T with stock 2.4 with 3-plug female spade harness from the original Bosch CD box didn't require a tach adaptor. From what I read it should have, but it didn't. From the reading I did, there seems to be some degree of inconsistency in what setups require the adaptor and what don't.

If you need pics, I can take some tomorrow for you.
