77 Sun Roof Concern

My 1977 has started making noises that have me concerned.

When opening it sounds fine.

When closing its making a concerning grinding noise an returns slower than normal.

Not familar with the operation.

What problems am I looking at and can they be repaired by the backyard mechanic with out removing the headliner

Is the noise coming from the motor/transmission area or from the side rails? Your answer will determine the best course of repair. Could be the motor or transmission needs cleaning/lubrication, or your cables or guide rails are binding.

Check the tech articles on this site about replacing sunroof cables--lots of pictures to help explain the functioning of the sunroof. Also, do a search for "sunroof" and read some threads. There's certain to be information and pictures of your symptoms.
