3,2 exhaust question
Hi all - I just got my 911 3,2 carrera ´86 from USA.
It has a CAT of course and 207 HP - I want to make it a Euro model with 231 HP which is legal in DK where I stay. Do I have to change the exhaust system totally or is it just to remove the cat and put the "cat bypass" thing on ? Thanks Anders |

Hi Anders, If you have some money to invest in your car, why not go the whole way. Get a Steve Wong chip, modify the air-box and put the SSI heat exchangers with a muffler, (I prefer the M&K 2 into 1). That will make a huge improvement to the performance of your 911.
If you dont want to spend that much. It would be a good start to get rid of the Cat and bypass it. I would also get the Steve wong Chip, for the best bang for your buck around $500.00 for the both. If you need more info I will be happy to help. Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 1986 (Euro Spec) Steve Wong Chip Modified Air-Box with BMC Race Filter SSI heat Exchangers with M&K 2 into 1 Muffler. |

Thanks for the suggestions - I still wonder if the cat is the only modification from euro to usa model on exhaust system.

Hello & no
![]() The US spec has lower compression than the 231 hp ones - so the pistons need to be changed as well - then you might as well go for a 3.4 set up....... ![]() Having owned both - the 231 hp is far "peppier" as we get 98 octane fuel here in norway - bet you do that in denmark as well

Anders,
I have the same question which I would like to know about the cat bypass too. This is my 84, 3.2 USA spec on the 1970. I have a pair of the 964 cams, ported/polished. The muffler are copy of the 2.8 RSR+2in one out MK. The muffler is a bit loud for street use but gives me goose bump on the track. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() I also have a US 86 and put in a SW premuff chip, Dansk Premuff and B&B muffler. I went back to the full stock airbox as recommended by SW. Those back clips are a b*tch or I am the worst wrench in the PNW. But I do like the stock box as it civilized the B&B interior sound just enough to what I was looking for over stock. The premuff and Wong chip were an instant OMG and a must have. Too soon to know if the sport muffler added much. Steve Wong put this on the board recently and it seemed pretty clear.

I think I get it - the compression is lower on us models: 10,3:1 compared to Euro model 9,5:1.
The exhaust system is the same apart from the Cat. I will go for the Steve Wong chip and Dansk premuffler... |

After a weekend with my B&B 1in-1out I believe I have more low end torque and higher speeds at lower rpm.I also put on the stock airbox with no ill effects over the cone kit. Sound is like a muscle car with burble and growl. I'm in love.
