koni yellows - can't get rubber stop on
I'm installing yellow koni's and I can't get the rubber stop to fit down on the shaft. As you can see from photo 2 there is a ledge on the shaft that prevents me from pushing the rubber stop all the way down. Photo 3 shows as far as I can get it to go.
Am I supposed to drill out the rubber enough for it to fit... or cut it as one does for a front sway bar bushing.... or am I completely missing something? 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]()

in that situation I've slipped 2-4 tie wraps inside and overlapping the ledge - push the boot over the ledge and pull out the tie wraps. Not sure how flexible your boot is.

Try installing the insert into the strut with the bump stop installed as shown, then use a floor jack to raise the control arm, pointing the stem into the upper mount. The rubber should give up and be forced downward as the floor jack and shock moves upward. I betcha. In addition, add some rubber lube to make that transition a little easier for the bump rubber.
Before you do this, consider your existing ride height. If much lower than factory height, you may want to consider cutting the difference off of the stop to maintain adequate suspension travel. Sherwood Last edited by 911pcars; 10-05-2008 at 09:52 PM.. |
