new to Pelican

it strikes me that a lot of wasted time could be saved if everyone new to Pelican got a simple message when they first signed up.

things in that message could include:

- a suggestion to post their model year, and other info when asking a question [just now sa yet another query that could not be answered b/c the answer was year defendant]

- links to important & commonly used threads
-- one branch to "what do i buy" type threads; need for a ppi etc.
-- one branch to "what do asap" after buying type threads & how
[e.g change & flush all fluids, incl. brake fluid; chg. rubber brake
hoses unless proven to be < 7 years old; same for tires], etc.

what else should be included??

i also suggest to Wayne that this go out in the regis. confirm. msg or at least as a link to this thread [which could serve as a master thread with links to the above]

I think location should be a required field. Maybe a note saying the actual address isn't required, but that we can be of more help if we know where the poster is?

A suggestion to use the "search" feature before asking typical newbie questions, as there is a TON of information in the archives already. It doesn't bother me, but evidently, it does some folks

Great idea R, nice one. I will do something similar for the IB crowd.

i definitely agree with pointing them to the search feature - but it often returns too many results - partly due to... people asking the same question over and over again

a short explanation of how to use the search would be useful

here is one link to include:

A link to the raging controversy about the Cool Collar would be in order.
