I shipped a guitar from OR to FL and found the US Post Service to be the cheapest. I don't know about anything very heavy, my package weighed 30 pounds. It took about 10 days to get there but it was half the shipping cost of anyone else.

shipping
For under 150lbs ups is probably the easiest and cheapest. If over 150lbs use Oak harbor freight or South Eastern freight.
http://www.sefl.com/seflWebsite/index.jsp I used Oak Harbor and they're partner South Eastern to ship a transmision, worked great and it was reasonable. |

I live by LAX and have used Forward Air many times and have the best rates I can find.
