Page 126 of Wayne's Engine Rebuild book discusses this area. On a rebuild some JB Weld should be applied. I did this on my engine during the rebuild and no problems with it.

Be sure to clean the area with brake cleaner and let it dry completely, then slop the stuff on there. Since it will be upside down, make sure it does'nt drip and compromise the seal. You might think about taping some plastic over it during the curing period.

Question is this the only fix? Is there a way to remove this plug and install a new one?

Again thank you for the quick reply!
