Projects to do with engine and trans out.

Hello everyone, having the engine and trans re-built should get it back in about 4 weeks. What projects should I do with it out?

Thank you in advance

Plenty will weigh in with good ideas, but I'd say the most overlooked one is the trailing arm bushings.

I always wanted to detail the engine! If I had my engine out I would have the intake runners, valve covers, fan and shroud and a few other components painted (powder coated). NOthin beata a beautiful looking engine.

Also consider:

Replacing the rear engine sound insulation pad (check out the new reflective material)
Cleaning up the painted surfaces or applying a coating to the engine compartment
Fuel line fittings and clamps
Cleaning the rear fuse/relay box area

Good luck

Bob

Oooooh - good one!

I'd steam clean the engine bay, touchup the paint, replace the sound pad, clean up every electrical connection, replace rubber hoses. It's all way easier with the engine out.

You need to at least stand in the empty engine bay and consume cold beer while getting your picture taken.....it's only righthttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

  • Fix / update suspension
  • Fix / remove / replace sound barrier
  • Clean the engine bay
  • Clean the suspension pieces
  • Check / replace wiring in engine bay
  • Take the car down to the tub and paint it pink with Hello Kitty logo on the hood.
  • Install new engine and transmission mounts
  • Get all the nice pricey Wevo transmission bits
  • Take a pressure washer to the fender wells to remove all that dirt and other junk that has built up underneath the car

Take the A/C thingy off the bottom of the engine cover and clean the underside of the lid. Replace the hood shocks. Clean the engine compartment, even under the wiring. Make sure all the connections that go into the tunnel are well sealed (replace boots if neccessary).

And most importantly, take a picture of yourself standing the empty space.

I wondered how long it would take someone to notice that in the list. :)

These would be the perfect rims for the paint job I mentioned.

Btw, I do second / third / whatever the idea of taking care of the clutch while it is out. Perhaps checking the CV joints, brakes and hubs would be good too. Also new brake lines would also be a cinch.

I'm more a fan of white with pink accents!

Repair/replace the heater boxes, lube the cables, replace the hoses. Replace the speedometer cable (on the older cars, like mine).

Check your axles for play, re-grease the CV joints, get new CV bolts for the engine end, armor-all the CV boots too.

Great ideas
I will be doing a considerable amount of cleaning. replacing the sound pad and taking the ac hoses out and new rubber oil lines.
Keep them coming if you have more.
LOL on painting it pink.
