Did my car get too hot?

I just took a trip from Florida to Nevada. I had no problems the whole trip until I came into the city of Las Vegas, which was around 101 degree out. Once I started to get into all the stop lights, the car acted like it wanted to quit. I kept on having to rev the engine to make sure it lasted through the red lights and then even when I was driving it was giving me problems.

Once I got to where I was going, I let the car sit for about an hour, and I think the issue went away. But I haven't driven it much since.

The temp gauge was not reading anything abnormal. In fact, all the gauges looked fine.

Is there something I can modify so this type of thing doesn't happen again? Or is it something as simple as possibly bad gas? What do you think happened to the car to make it act like that?

Just for reference, I'm from the north east so I don't know much about how cars act in the south west.

Could have been an electronic glitch that becomes more apparent when it gets hot....

I experienced the same issues a couple of weeks ago driving from LA to the desert in Mojave.

My oil pressure did drop below 1bar at the stop lights, so I kept the revs at 1,100 rpms to raise the pressure closer to 1bar.

And the engine sounded a bit more noisy than usual (valve noise?) too?!

After an couple of hours, same thing, drove just fine....

A heat sink issue?

As in the extended driving in high outside temps allow everything in the engine area to reach higher temps, including sensitive electronics ie: starter/solinoid (s?) and all wiring in the areas. Never reached higher than mid range on the Temp. guage, oil pressure did drop below the 1 bar per 1K rpm but just slightly...

Anything we can do to improve this condition?

I have the 28 row oil cooler up front with the air scoop in the bumper along with home-made baffels to direct more air to the oil cooler inside the bumper area...

The engine didn't act wierd above idle though, so once I rolled away from the stop lights it ran smooth, but did seem low on power though?!

Im guessing maby the change in altitude plays a part in the tuning of it. Or it could just be excessive heat. i dunno to tell the truth

If you bought gas in Utah or other high altitude place the octane will be lower than usual and can cause issues when you travel to another altitude-- especially when you throw in extreme heat.

Normally I put in 93, but that last few stops only had up to 91. That may be something to look into.
