Tach problems

I recently got my tach rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometer, and I looks and works great. The other day, it started acting up. When I start the car, it works. After about 3 minutes, it stops working.....I put in another tach, and the same thing happened. When it is working, the needle wil not go past 3500rpm, even when revved much higher than that.

Any Ideas???

Thanks in advance.

I have lost control of my rev counter twice before, by which I mean it does not reflect what the engine is actually doing. The first time it was a faulty alternator and the second time a faulty regulator. Check your charging voltage and see if it is correct.

I am also having issues with my tach, which was rebuilt by NHS back in May, and didn't work right upon receipt. I was told by NHS that 1) well, it's then likely the DME unit; after checking & seeing a signal on the tach lead to the tach when the tach was failing (reading 0), I was told 2) that oh, well, then it's probably the voltage regulator.

I replaced the Alt back in '05. So I replaced the regulator today (even thought I was not seeing anything far out of ordinary in charging), and I'm still getting the issue. I'm sending my tach back to NHS Monday. It is my opinion that it's inside the tach itself.
