Can I mix Glasurit paint and PPG hardener?

I'm about to paint a replacement fender for my SC, and I have plenty of Glasurit paint and reducer, but the Glasurit hardener has, well, hardened. It's unusable. I have a perfectly good can of PPG hardener, however.

The Glasurit paint is a "high solids" urethane and the PPG hardener is a "high solids" hardener. Obviously Glasurit urges me to use their own hardener, since they want to sell it, but are the two brands in fact incompatible? I should think they'd be just as mixable as putting Duco lacquer thinner into a BASF lacquer.

But whadoo I know?

I have painted in the past using leftover materials(mixed brands)mostly" used car specials "Sometimes it works fine BUT if you get a problem no one will know why and you will curse yourself for your neglecting manufacturers advice. If you must experiment , do it with a scrap panel.

Well, we're not talking here about "used-car specials," whatever that is. This is high-quality, $580-a-gallon (including paint, hardener and reducer) Glasurit and first-line PPG stuff. I'm not asking about mixing no-name quantities.

I think "used car specials" would apply to the car the paint is being applied to, not the paint

Steve, I have found that some can be mixed-n-matched, and actually work just fine. But... I would still do a small test batch to make sure it goes off as planned, or if it wants to stay soft after many hours. Just calculate down the mixture for an ounce or so and shoot it on your old, prepped fender to check. This may take a few extra hours time for the replacement to be completed, but you will be sure of the outcome. Good luck!! Tony.

To be more blunt. I wouldn,t risk $580 a gal paint by using a diff line hardener. First line or otherwise the system coumpounding may be different and may or may not be compatible.
