will a 901 shifter work with a 915 gearbox

Im putting a 3.0 with a 915 into a 70 chassis. I am having a time with my replacement 915 shifter. I was curious what modifications, if any, need to be performed. Thanks-Bill

Thanks John, it appears that my replacement 915 shifter has a short shift kit installed, and I am having a time with it. I never liked those...

Don't forget to install the 915 shift rod while you have the drivetrain out. The 901 and 915 shift rods are different lengths.

I have a 76 S, as a project- (look for the upcoming thread). It is a bit of a mes, as most projects are. It came with what I was told is a 78 SC transmission. Are you guys saying there are mods to be done?

I have the original 901 shift tube in my '69 with a '78 915 gearbox. It works fine, but there's probably more leeway with the slightly shorter 915 tube.

915 shift housing assemblies are all interchangeable, even with 901 gearboxes (needs a slight mod).

Does your short shift assy. contain factory parts or a WM or equiv. aftermarket version? Both aftermarket kits require a companion spacer under the housing. The Target piece is a small spacer block; the WM spacer is the same footprint as the shift housing. Is it there? Otherwise, the system won't go together. Once you find the WM pieces, get rid of it and instead use the stock setup or the factory short shifter kit.

I have a Seine gate shifter for a 915 that's been cut/re-welded 180° to use with the 901
