valve adjustment/rocker Q
do the swivel feet on the adjusting screw wear to the point when doing a valve adjustment it can give you a false indication of being set to .004?
i did a valve adjustment a few months ago and as soon as i started the car it sounded great, then after about 10 min. the valves started making noise again. i did both front side and backside method. i pulled the exhaust covers back off the other day and checked them. i ended up tightening 5 of them. i did the front side this time. i set them (as i did the last time) so the .004 was VERY hard to get in and out. what was strange though, when inserting the feeler, it went in about half way very easily, then i had to work it to get it in the rest of the way and it was VERY hard to get it back out. once again, sounds like one on the right side is making noise again.

A lot of time the valve stems will have worn out spots on the tops that can cause this problem.

See the posts on rocker end play, about a week old. The shafts may need to be turned. Easy to remove and inspect.
