When removing the a/c coil will it have any adverse affects?
 

I am contemplating removing the a/c from my '83 SC cab., I'll pull the condensor but if I remove the evaporator coil from under the whale tail will it affect engine temps or anything else for that matter. When I pulled the heat ducts there was such a fuss about capping off the holes that I am concerned there may be issues, perhaps related to air circulation or such when I remove the finned coil?? Perhaps rain water problem, just don't want to remove it and find I've created more problems.

If anything there might be a slight improvement in air flow to the engine bay.

Just be sure to have the refrigerant in system evacuated prior to taking it apart - assuming there is still freon left.

Hi Robert, I realize that it is probably just a gaffe in the terminology in the use of the names of the components, but that would be the tail condenser not the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is the coil set in the smugglers box that gets cold and the air gets blown through it into the cabin for A/C cooling. There is a front center mounted condenser, and a condenser located in the tail. Now to your question.

I see no problem with the removal of either of the condensers, front or rear. Good luck!! Tony.

Agree with the above comments. Remove everything related to the A/C if it's no longer working. I didn't weigh the whole pile of parts when I was done, but it looks to be about 60+ pounds. Now I can work on the engine a whole lot easier.

Thanks, yes the tail condensor, I was not sure of the lingo, so I added (hopefully) enough info into the question to at least identify the location of the part, thanks again, you think I would know better, as owner of a plumbing supply.

Weight is an objective here, I simply don't use it, not sure if it works. The top is always down and when it's that hot out I could not bring myself to add to the oil temp by running the a/c. Looking into other weight reduction as well.

IMHO, No bad side effects.

Also remove the Receiver Dryer in driver side front wheel well.

This may be an opportunity to add front oil cooler in place of the front condensor, Just a brain fart.

I would keep the front condensor protection bar for those irratating parking bumps or steep driveways.
