What is this and where does it go?
1980 911SC 3.0
So, I was checking something on the drivers side of the engine. When I moved the heater hoses out of the way, I saw this connection laying by itself on the bottom of the engine bay area. It was not hooked up and I can't figure out where it would plug into. It looks kind of like a spark plug boot, but it is not of course. Just trying to give the general perspective. It can only reach "so far", so you would think it would be easy to figure out. "Easy" has never been part of my M.O. Can anyone help me out here? Sorry about the blurry picture, but it was late and dark and I couldn't focus on what I was taking a picture of. Thanks, Robert http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223440208.jpg |
That's where the flux capacitor plugs in.
Got me, it's too fuzzy. |
Looks like half of an in-line fuse.

O2 Sensor.
Need to plug it into your O2 Sensor Harness,it is yellowish plastic with a male stab spade. Looks like it is right below it. |
Either O2 sensor probe or Lamda sensor, both go to exhaust....

The male mate to that connector resides below the fuel filter and is mounted to the chassis. That connector typically falls apart and will need to be re-worked a bit. I cut off the broken bits of the male connector on my cabriolet and re-covered the exposed wire with a double layer of shrink tube. Works a treat.
If you have the skills to go down the CIS-lambda rabbit hole, it's worthwhile to get your system fully functional. Brian |
Definitely the Oxogen sensor. I just tried to unplug the sucker and it was a bear so I cut the black wire and willemoved mine a few days ago. There is a grommet (rubber around a hole in metal) that goes through the left rear side tin piece that bolts to the cam tower. This plug is usually above the tin and the wire goes through the grommet down to the catalytic converter.
Here's a photo after I clipped it off above the tin. It's supposed to come off easy but after all the time an heat.... no so easy. I finally opted to cut and use connectors and shrink tube on reassemble. Hope this helps.... your photo was very fuzzy.... hope this is the same thing as you see yours in person. Mine is a '82 3.0L SC engine. The wire is going up from the cat through the tin and cut off like it is.... is curling back down over the tin. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223521321.jpg |
